The Wisdom of God

For us Christians, part of our sin is that we get comfortable being redeemed and blessed. I’m putting myself in this category. We forget about all the people out there who aren’t so blessed.  And they need to hear us open up our mouth and tell them the truth because it’s only the truth that’s going to set them free. Not the truth of Dr. So-And-So, but the truth of Jesus, the Great Physician. Just like the woman with the issue of blood. She spent everything she had at the hands of many physicians for all those years. But instead of getting better, she just got worse. That’s the testimony of most of the girls who walk through the doors of Mercy. Many of them spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on treatment programs, yet they remain without hope.

You know what? God is not about treatment. He’s about transformation, and it only happens when we renew our mind to God’s Word. The day you get born again or dedicate your life to the Lord is an event. You can mark it down. Mine was August 9, 1972. That was an event in my life where I was born again. But the transformation part of that event comes afterwards. Transformation is a process. And guess what? I am still in it today and so are you. And we need to continually renew our minds to God’s Word, because if we don’t, we will forget who we are, whose we are, and what we’re supposed to be doing. Our job description is to go into the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. What’s the Gospel? It’s the truth of God’s Word. It’s what Jesus did for us on the cross. It’s proclaiming liberty and freedom to the captives. Jesus got the keys to death, hell, and the grave, and He’s given them to us. He is calling us to go, and as we go and speak His Word, He will watch over it to perform it.

What do we want to see performed in the lives of people? We want to see freedom. We want to see them come to know Christ. We want them to be transformed. We want them planted in the house of God where they will hear the truth. It is pretty common for secular treatment programs and even secular counselors to tell someone who is an addict or maybe an alcoholic “once you’re this, you’ll always be this.”  But that’s not what the Bible says. Are we going to believe what the truth of God’s Word says, or are we going to believe the wisdom of the world and what the natural mind would say?  Because the experts of the world do not acknowledge God, they cannot have any success in helping people get true freedom that is only found in Christ.

If you put your help in man or the wisdom of the world you will be disappointed. God said, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate” (1 Corinthians 1:19). But the wisdom that we give to people is not man’s wisdom.  It’s the wisdom of God.  It’s truth.  It’s God’s word.  And when we apply the truth of God’s word to our lives and embrace it, that truth sets us free.  Everything starts with surrender.  Surrendering our heart and our life to Jesus Christ and understanding that we are no longer our own.  We have been bought and paid for with a price, the precious blood of Jesus.

Because Mercy doesn’t take government funding, we have the freedom to share this truth with the young women who come into our program. Whether it’s an addiction, sexual abuse, an eating disorder, cutting, or whatever else may be going on in your life, there is nothing in life you will face that is not covered in His Word. Freedom is possible!
