Be Born Again

Psalms 139 says, “…Before I was in my mother’s womb, God knew me.” We can read that scripture and not truly understand what it’s saying. It’s saying God knows you. He knows you through all the stuff, through all the shame, through all the anger. He knows your neighbor through all their pain, through all their wanting to die because of what’s been done to them. It would be so easy to try and fix people through our own humanity. We often try to reach them because we’ve been through the same thing, but there’s something better than us being humane. It’s called being born again.

Remember the verse that says, “Presenting our bodies to God, a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable, which is our reasonable service,” then, “and do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” If we go pull someone out of physical captivity or a negative situation, but we don’t help them ask Jesus in their heart, be born again, then we’re not showing them everything. We’re not showing that they can dedicate their bodies to Him, no longer to be used, no longer to be abused, no longer to be filled with substance. We can’t just leave them in their pain because the next verse says, “And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” If we don’t show them how to renew their mind with God’s Word, then we are doing them a disservice. Love meets people where they are, but love doesn’t leave them there. God meets people where they are, and He doesn’t leave them there.
